US Embassy Day

Today we got to visit the US embassy to have our interview for Kannika's visa. The adoption agency was not kidding when they said it could be a long wait. It was about a 2 hour wait and we were outside so there was no air conditioning. I tried to let Kannika run around some but I had to keep telling her no for the off limit places. She didn't like that and started having a major meltdown. About this time they called us in for our interview. That part took about 2 minutes. The officer asked us first why she was crying... I told him she was hot and tired from the wait. :) Then he just made sure we wanted to adopt her with about 3-4 questions. At this point we were done and were told her Visa will be ready on Monday. We came back to the hotel and while Kannika napped we planned out the rest our stay here in Bangkok. After nap we went to MBK... kind of our new favorite place for many reasons 1) It's rainy season here so it's nice that it's inside 2) It's air conditioned and 3) they have strollers we can borrow for free! We had a nice time introducing Kannika to her first Dairy Queen ice cream cone. We had been told she liked ice cream and they were right. She loved it but didn't quite know what to do with the waffle cone. So I showed her how to eat it and she was so excited when she took her first bite. This picture says it all :)

It was pouring rain so we thought we could take a taxi. Apparently there aren't as many taxi's available at night as during the day so we took the sky train and figured we could catch a taxi at that stop. There were no taxi's with room anywhere when we got off at our sky train stop! We ended up walking back to the hotel in the rain which had thankfully let up a little but Darryl had to carry Kannika the whole way back. It's about 1 mile and a half which is normally fine but we were pretty wet by the time we got back. So take note adoptive parents do not hope for cab after people get off work if it's raining. Also the sky train is a great way to get around and cheap with several stops at convenient places. Traffic in Bangkok is something I don't think I've talked about yet but it is definitely something I've never seen before. There isn't a good way to describe it except for perfectly controlled chaos. There seem to be no traffic laws and the lines and even direction of traffic are more a suggestion. It's amazing that there seem to be no accidents here. It's the same with walking across traffic sometimes there is a walking light like in America but other times we likened it to playing Frogger in real life.
Bedtime went great again. She's a great sleeper and that is a blessing. I've always said God gave me babies who could sleep because He knew I needed sleep. That has continued with our 3rd child too. Another good moment today was when a lady asked me if Kannika was our daughter. It made me smile to be able to say yes! There were more smiles today and more tears. I can't imagine how hard this is for our little girl. She is a fighter though and had made it through physical trials already in her little life so I know she will be alright soon. We are thankful God has brought our family together so perfectly.
