Well we are in Thailand finally. It was 20.5 hours of flying time and 31 hours of travel time on top of the 15 hour time change. That adds up to a really long day sort of 2 days. Once we arrived in Thailand everyone has been very friendly and helpful. The hotel is great. The rooms are big and have a separate living area and sleeping area. Which will be nice once we have Kannika.
For those who are reading this and will travel soon to adopt. This hotel really does have everything you need. The bed is a bit firm but comfortable. We requested a room as close to the bottom as possible because we heard the elevators can be scary for adopted kids (and because I am uncomfortable in elevators). It looked like the room had been upgraded recently. The floors are laminate flooring and everything has a more modern and clean look to it. The only downside is if you are over 5'2" you are going to have to bend to wash your hair in the shower. The shower head only reaches about that high when you extend it. I'm 5'2" and it's right at the top of my head.
We walked all around our section of Bangkok today. We probably walked at least 5 miles today but it was really good to get our bearings and explore the area before we have Kannika with us. We have the best little park (Lumphini Park) about 5 minutes from the hotel. There are 2 playgrounds and a cute little lake with lots of grass to run on. There is a running track around it and a local man told us it 2.5 km around it. We also found a mall MBK(that was an interesting experience). There are lots of malls with higher end stores but MBK is more like an indoor market place. It is a great place for souveniers and gifts. We figured out the sky train here which is definitely the best way to get around and we found a Starbucks and Auntie Anne's within walking distance from our hotel. The Life Center is right across the street from Lumphini park. That was pretty exciting. ALSO the MBK we found has a Dunkin Donuts in it. Darryl is pretty thrilled. There are also several other fast food type places there. The local food is mostly what we will eat but it's nice to know other things are available.
The last thing we did was a dinner cruise on an antique rice boat. I highly recommend Loy Nava. It was really great. The atmosphere was very low key and the food was excellent. It was a good low key date for us before meeting our daughter in the morning. The nice thing about the time change and jet lag is we are both exhausted. Normally before big exciting events I have a hard time sleeping but that will not be a problem tonight. That's a blessing. :)
Here is my favorite picture from our cruise down the shore line from our boat.
