Why we chose International adoption

I thought it would be nice to let everyone know why we chose adoption and why we chose international adoption specifically. Whenever I tell people that we want to adopt a little girl from China the most common question I get is, Why China? usually followed by why not a domestic adoption. We are not anti domestic adoption at all. It's just not where God is leading us. He works in everyone's hearts differently and for us it's China. I feel it is pretty clear that this is where he is leading us.
Long before Darryl and I met God had been working on our hearts about adopting someday. Specifically about adopting a little girl from China. After we met, we discussed the idea of adopting someday. I definitely felt that it was God's doing that he brought us together and had been working on our hearts separately but we were still in the someday stage. Shortly after we got engaged, I had the opportunity to work in a wonderful Pediatric office as a nurse. It just so happens that one of the Dr.'s there is Chinese. Her father came from China when he was younger. She has the unique opportunity to be the Dr. for many of the families in Alaska who chose to adopt from China. So throughout my working experience I was constantly reminded that this was really something I wanted to pursue. Every time a family would bring in a little Chinese girl I would stop and think about the girl God had in store for us and pray for her and her family (even though most likely she wasn't born yet).
Well, over the last 4 years we were blessed with 2 beautiful children. After our daughter was born we both really felt that we were done having biological children. Over the next few months God continued to work in our hearts and we came to the decision it was time to pursue the adoption idea a little more aggressively. We found a great adoption agency (through the suggestion of a friend) that is a Christian based organization. I have read through their website and read stories from families who have adopted through them and feel that they truly care about the orphans and the families that want to adopt them.
We both realize that this is something God has to do through us. International adoption is pretty expensive and has no guarantees. The Chinese government could decide for no apparent reason to us that they do not want us to have a little girl. However, this does not scare me. I really feel that this is supposed to happen for us. So maybe some people would think it's foolish of us but I like to think of it as faith.
